ĶMI ir labs veids, kā pārbaudīt ar ķermeņa taukiem (aptaukošanos) saistīto slimību risku. Pārsvarā, jo augstāks ir ĶMI, jo lielāka iespēja saslimt ar citām hroniskām aptaukošanās slimībām, tostarp:

  • Sirds un asinsvadu slimībām
  • Insultu
  • Augstu asinsspiedienu
  • Neauglību
  • Depresiju un trauksmi
  • Koronāru sirds slimību
  • Dislipidēmiju
  • Ar metabolo disfunkciju saistīto steatohepatisko aknu slimību (MASLD)/Ar metabolisko disfunkciju saistīto steatohepatītu (MASH)
  • Gastroezofageālā refluksa slimību (GERS)

Kādi ir ĶMI ierobežojumi?

ĶMI ir vienkāršs un objektīvs mērījums, taču dažos gadījumos un dažām cilvēku grupām tas var būt maldinošs. Pētījumos ie pierādīts, ka ĶMI ir mazāk precīzs, lai prognozētu slimību risku cilvēkiem, kas ir vecāki, sportistiem, tiem, kas ir gari vai īsi, un tiem, kuriem ir muskuļotāks ķermeņa tips. Piemēram, elites sportistiem vai kultūristiem ir vairāk muskuļu un tie sver vairāk, kas attiecīgi paaugstina ĶMI.

Tāpat ĶMI neņem vērā:

  • Iedzimtus riska faktorus, kas saistīti ar aptaukošanās slimībām, piemēram, metabolo sindromu
  • Vides un dzīvesveida faktorus, kas var veicināt risku saslimt ar hroniskām slimībām
  • Kurās ķermeņa daļās ir uzkrāti tauki

Ir svarīgi atcerēties, ka dzīve ar aptaukošanos ne vienmēr nozīmē, ka jūs esat neveselīgs, tāpat kā “normāls” svars ne vienmēr nozīmē, ka esat veselīgs.

Kā ĶMI un vidukļa attiecība pret auguma garumu var palīdzēt pārvaldīt sirds veselību


Cilvēkiem ar lieko svaru vai aptaukošanos ir lielāks risks saslimt ar kardiovaskulārajām slimībām (KVS), ko sauc arī par sirds slimībām.

Lai gan ĶMI un vidukļa attiecību pret auguma garumu (WtHR — Waist to Height Ratio) var izmantot, lai novērtētu personas KVS attīstības risku, WtHR tiek uzskatīts par spēcīgāku prognozētāju sirds un asinsvadu riska faktoriem, piemēram, augsta asinsspiedienam un augstam holesterīnam. 

ĶMI izmanto, lai norādītu personas svara kategoriju, pamatojoties uz to garumu un svaru. WtHR savukārt tiek izmantots, lai izmērītu cilvēka ķermeņa tauku sadalījumu, pamatojoties uz to augumu un vidukļa apkārtmēru. WtHR mērīšana ir svarīga, jo pārmērīgs tauku daudzums, kas tiek uzkrāts ap vēderu, jo īpaši ir saistīts ar paaugstinātu sirds slimību attīstības risku.

Gan sava ĶMI, gan WtHR zināšana var palīdzēt jums uzlabot savu sirds veselību, saprotot, vai ir jāveic pasākumi, lai pārvaldītu savu svaru.
